When working with artists and in studios, lyrics could never be too deep or meaningful…Why? Because a song with an upbeat tempo and the same words uttered over and over again has an immeasurably greater chance of hitting the top charts than a song that embodied intelligent thought or emotion.

A perfect example of this term is Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song”. This song took Pop, RnB and Soul Charts by storm worldwide, hitting #2 in the US and #1 in the UK, selling over 2,000,000 digital copies in the United States alone, as of July 2011.

Click here to view the embedded video.

It’s easy to see what this video promotes: Laziness, Unwillingness to Work or exert any type of energy…The Dumb Down Generation.

If you take a look around you, at the media, the atmosphere, the economy, you will see a pattern emerge. People are not working. Our earth is accumulating more and more garbage and toxins by the minute. While the sheeple of America are collecting welfare, unemployment or disability, the government is gaining more control of mindless lives, causing the value of the dollar to plummet over the past several years. Most media outlets market themselves to a population saturated with self-medication, pill-popping, negligence, laziness and unawareness.

Enough with the meaningless music, the mindless sitcoms and the hazed over look in the eyes of people across the nation.

It’s time for The Dumb Down Generation to WAKE UP before the last few shreds of the America we love are destroyed.

Kill your TV, support intelligent, thought-provoking art/media and for God’s sake, don’t be afraid to pick up a book… or at least your Kindle. Go outside, breathe deep (get some oxygen to your brain) and enjoy nature… simply AWAKEN.

The reason for this fear of course, is not because they are self-seeking or they have Peter Pan Syndrome, it stems from a dread of going through the heartache they did as a child, of losing the one they love.

As my own father passed away when I was just 8 years old, I have personally been faced with this very problem. I thought I had overcome this setback many years ago…but I was wrong. Back in July, my boyfriend got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Even the thought of becoming ENGAGED caused uneasiness within every pore of my body. My answer reeked of my apprehension… “Someday”, I said.

I have come to this realization: Although I’ve been married before, the love between my spouse and I was always one-sided, with him doting on me and I, to be honest, not really giving a shit; I have never allowed myself to truly love, outside of that which I have for my children.

So now, my friends, it is time for me to change my ways. Whether this engagement turns into a marriage or not, I must allow myself to create a doorway in the wall I have built around my heart…and experience love for the first time. Because no one should go through life, missing out on the best the Universe has for them, simply because of past hurts and regrets.

So to all my fellow players, all of you who shy away from commitment, who cringe at the thought of allowing someone access to your guarded heart… I’m gonna give this experience they call “love” a whirl… Will you join me?
